Sat Jul 20, 2013 11:59 am

Joins up with Benitez again

I bet this is just so he can move to Barca to replace Valdes next season.

Does this really need its own thread?

Why would it not have its own thread Ste?

It's big news! Clearly Mignolet is highly rated to push out Liverpool's number 1 for as long as I can remember.
Who was their number 1 before Reina? David James?

Dudek?

A stop gap I guess before he goes to Barca but what if the new Barca manager doesn't want him. I honestly don't rate Reina that highly.

I think this makes Liverpool a better team. Reina's reputation far exceeds his actual performance.

Friedel, Westerveld , Kirkland and Dudek were all after James but I still think Reina is better than all of them.

He has won the Premier League Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets for three years in succession and has boasts an impressive penalties to saves ratio - most notably in the FA Cup final of 2006 and the Champions League semi-final win over Chelsea in 2007 .

He has something like 100 cleansheets in 198 prem games..

I seriously think he is underrated. He has made mistakes before, but which keeper in the world can say they haven't made a mistake? He's great on his feet, and has amazing reflexes.

IMO Reina is moving to Napoli because he know that sitting on the bench all season will not get him selected for the Spanish team in WC2014 - where he would sit on the bench. He is on the downhill side of his career and WC2014 will be his last major tournament.

Doesn't make sense to me. Who is his replacement?

They already got Mignolet.

Exactly why this doesn't need a thread. This was answered in the other thread and discussed.

Simon Mignolet

Reina sit on the bench behind Casillas but get the occasional game but if he sit on the bench all season at liverpool and DeGea has another season like he did this year I could see him not even making the squad. I also think that Reina skills have deteriorated each year since rafa left.

Well, Mignolet is not completely proven as a keeper. Can be a bit shaky. And a loan move for someone his age is strange.

I guess it depends on what half of last season DeGea reproduces.

I though DeGea's performance stabilized and improved once he got a consistent set of defenders in front of him and he was no longer rotated. Although I realize it could be he ws no longer rotated because his performance improved  .

I'm confident going into the new season with DeGea, he definitely improved in the second half of last season. I don't know if I quite see him as the best keeper in the world like some of his fanboys on here, but maybe one day... probably for Barcelona.
