interesting thought

What's your opinion on this
How many English clubs are successful that are run by the manager with the backing of the board
The obvious ones are
and to a certain level Brighton
All 4 are run by managers that know in advance what the financial boundaries,if any, are. The managers find the target players and set the deals up for the owners to rubber stamp
At the other end the clubs that frustrate the fans the most imo are those run by the board for profits only
They are

The pattern is clear as daylight

I can't make my mind up where Spurs and Chelsea sit in this

What do you think?

Spurs would fit into the first bracket for me. They are clear to the managers about the limits of the clubs finances, but they are fully backed within that. They extract the absolute maximum value out of any sale, which ensures that they only lose players when there really is no other choice.

Chelsea are an odd one. They certainly used to be in that first group, but in recent years they have changed their approach quite a bit. It seems to be a direct result of Abramovich taking a back seat, and the club consequently needing to tighten belts.
