Mike Phelan to be director of football

Mon Apr 22, 2019 9:35 am

Strong rumours that Mike Phelan is to be sort of appointed director of football

Typical United that the rumours say he will have 3 jobs(fpr the price of one)
He is to be director of football to find players, technical director of football to look at the opposition and also be involved in the match day "bench job"
If this turns out to be true it will be yet another total disaster
Mike is not a director of football.Plain and simple

To be a director of football at the highest level you need contacts at the highest level all round the world. From players to agents,to directors of football at other clubs and be able to talk to managers and advise your own manager
It is not about assessing your next opponent. That is for somebody else
It is not about match day bench duties. That is somebody else

Alex Ferguson got his brother Martin to live full time in South America
He knew every Brazilain,Argentinian,Peruvian and Bolivian player
He rarely came to Manchester. He watched them all and sent videos and recommendations having had the authority to open negotiations
He sourced many players

Mike Phelan doesn't know or understand agents. Why should he
He has no contact with other directors of football. At 57 he has never done it
Ed Woodward was happy to get rid of him when Moyes was appointed. Now they seem desperate to give him a job he doesn't understand
Presumably because he will do 3 jobs cheap

This club is rotten to the core

while I totally agree that the idea of Phelan doing the job is a joke, not sure the point of your Martin Ferguson comment. We've basically had one successful south American player, ever. Fergie's brother got to live a nice life in a sunny spot on the clubs bill, that's about it.

I know everybody thinks i preach doom and gloom which i do but it is for a reason
It is so people might wake up before it is too late and stop talking football and start talking sport

I was scouting round the Tampa Bay fans websites and they are in the same boat as us
Finished bottom,yet again.But so what
Hope for the best but realistically the fight has been kicked out of them
The draft is up in a couple of days for next season,as is our transfer window coming up shortly
They are going to take on cheap options, knackered old has beens and cheap useless players
They are going to stay silent as they always do and when it goes wrong as it always does they will let the fans blame the coach and get a new coach
He is turn will get new but cheap players as that is all the coach ever seems to be allowed

Sound familiar

Well i found this article on the internet from the Tampa Bay newspaper
Frighteningly it is 3 years old
Both teams have deteriorated in the last 3 years.Well United have anyway as they couldn't get any lower
Read it and it confirms what Ed Woodward has been proud to announce season on season to the investors which is that success is not important
It makes me feel sick to think what is yet to come as this is not the end of slump. It is just part of it.
