I hate to admit the family shame, but my nephew is an Arsenal fan.
Co-incidentally my family is meeting up in London on the Saturday, and he is excusing himself to go to the match.
I did not realise it was against us though!
I should have begged a ticket!

2 teams full of highly talented players short on confidence. It will be the mentally tougher team that prevails...

Been a very long time since a United team would lose a mental game to Arsenal. Even Moyes got the better of them.
No better time to play Arsenal. Would be a disaster to not run this game at the very least, and its time we show we can take 3 points from these games this season

we'll win this one. I can see wenger's losing face from ten days away

as far as the team, I think we should keep the same back four unless rafael is back. keep mcnair and blind as center backs. if jones/evans are fit i would consider those, but cant see smalling displacing mcnair after recent performances of both.

please please go diamond again. it was so free flowing and refreshing and then we just stopped doing it. di maria has gone anonymous since the change. just go back to diamond. carrick in the defensive mid role, herrera and dimaria on the sides, mata gets back in the team for me after a positive sub appearance; with fellaini making way. rooney and rvp upfront

Smalling is available, isn't he?

de Gea
Rafael - Smalling - McNair - Shaw
Fellaini - Blind
Herrera - Rooney - di Maria
Falcao

Might go with Blackett just because of LVG's preference Left footer/Right footer combo. A fluid interchange (no pun intended) behind Falcao involving Di Maria, Rooney and Mata will prove very penetrative (pun intended)

We do seem to always have Arsenal's number in the past couple of seasons albeit we drew there last season in what could be only described as a borefest.

Both teams are fragile so as above it depends on who handles the pressure.

Im hoping so of our Defenders are back - i know smalling is but any word on Jones or Evans? i cant wait to see a settled team in which everybody is fit.

I would stick with Mata as Januzaj hasnt been great these past games - if Falcao is fully fit i would give him a go instead of RVP.

Rafael Jones Evans Shaw
Carrick/Blind
Herrera/Fellaini Di Maria
Mata
Falcao Rooney

Only in the starting line-up did Di Maria play on the wing against Palace. I'm amazed on how many fans and 'experts' who only look on the line-up on Sky, and don't care about where the player actually play.

Against Palace he started as a number 10, Rooney played deeper, probably as safety, Palace are very strong on counter attacks. After a quarter we changed formation, Rooney was pushed higher, and Di Maria had a free role. I would guess we did that because Palace were no threat at all. Shaw was amazing on the left, and if you look at Di Maria's heat-map, he was hardly playing on the left at all. He floated around outside Palace's box.

We tried in numerous ways to brake them down, something completely different to last season, where high balls was the standard. Both CB's run at the defence, very clever against team parking the bus. We created enough to beat them with ease, but our attacking players are not on top form. Both Adnan and Di Maria was very poor. Both can easily be excused. Di Maria has a fantastic year behind him, but it must have been exhausting, maybe he needs a little break. Adnan is on his second season after a great first season, not rare to have a bit of problems in the second season. But both on them will come good, same will happen with Rooney and RvP.

We just have to keep on play as we have the last 3-4 matches against the Gunners. Even against Palace we didn't play a bad game, even though that seems to be what most believe. They are really hard to brake down, I watched them against Chelsea, and they were in big trouble at the end, Courtois had to make some fantastic saves.

Still the same line up for me, only Mata preferred over Januzaj this time, because i think he needs a 'mental' rest and come in off the bench.
Mata and Rooney in free roles, cutting inside, or dropping in midfield when Herrera and Di Maria push forward or wide.
Lots of passing, movement and tempo, and this way still a bit more stability than the diamond i hope (although there isn't much difference and i wouldn't mind us using that formation again).

Blind
Herrera - Di Maria
Mata ---------- Rooney
Rvp

Don't care about defence, anyone who's fit, would like Carrick as CB though.

EDIT: so bored of all this international football, only upside is the time it gives us recuperate some defenders..

Our injury luck is incredible, just unbelievable...

Let's hope Carrick is fit at least. The less i see from Fellaini the better.
For some bizarre reason Wilmots preferred him over Nainggolan yesterday, result: another terrible, terrible elbow on Joe Allen, footballwise zero (well, he stood next to the striker practically the whole game asking for long balls as usual).

Really hope Carrick will be fit, or Herrera and Fellaini should both play in a defensiv role

What, no subs? Falcao and Herrera on the bench.

That made me laugh more than it should.

If we don't win we might as well give up on 4th now. It's weird that this game is critical to the season, but that's were we are.
