I posted this on TR a while back; it's an adaptation of another poem that I have re-written to suit the Babes. It's not great, but I wanted to share it again, my own little personal tribute to those lost heroes.
Farewell sweet turf and northern sky,
Forever blest, since here did lie,
And here with lissom limbs did run,
Beneath the Mancunian sun:
Sir Matt's great Busby Babes,
Who for United, their lives gave.
Though all to ruin fell that team,
And hurled backwards was the dream,
Unmade into the great abyss,
Yet were its making good for this -
Byrne and Taylor and Big Dunc E -
That the Busby Babes, for a time, should be.
The legend they forged,
In their short time together,
Will live on in our hearts,
Always and forever.
