I just noticed that when counting the seasons it adds to 17, it's only the total number that needs correcting.

4 Times to be correct. So we've got 19, they've got 22.

UEFA cup back then is a prestigous cup since the european cup is only for the champions. 2nd, maybe 3rd place on some countries play this cup so it still has some glamour. imagine bayern, ac milan, celtic and other big clubs fighting for this cup. now it is no where near the UCl trophy.

The UEFA Cup was formerly the Cup Winners Cup, which Was Formerly the Inter City Fairs cup.

It is undergoing yet another restructuring into what will be known as the UEFA Europa League Next season.

As in all its various guises it has completey different qualifying criteria, each one has been a completely different competition.

To be technically correct, the European Cup, and the UCL are totally different competitions with different formats, but try telling that to a Liverpool, Forest or Villa fan

Mistake mate, Cup Winners Cup had nothing to do with the UEFA or the Fairs Cup.
The latter two yes, but CWC was a separate competition.

Not strictly true.

In the 1960s European Competition really took off. Due to the efforts of people like Sir Matt Busby who dragged English teams into the European Cup kicking and screaming. No one thought it was a good idea, but Sir Matt did. I think most people will now agree he was right.

The 'Big One' was always the European Cup (now called Champions League). Sir Matt wanted this more than anything. This competition started in 1955 and back then it was ONLY contested between true Champions from each country. If you won your countries league title, you were in, come second and you were out, it was as simple as that.

We also had the Inter City Fairs Cup which was a bit of a weird one to be honest. It was started by Sir Stanley Rous of the English FA, who went on to be a top man at UEFA. Basically it's job was to promote activities between countries, or cities, that held fairs and it's main job was to promote trade between these cities. It ran from 1955 until 1971 and is called the predecessor to the UEFA Cup, but they actually ran side by side for ten years.

The UEFA Cup began in 1961 and ran until last season, when it changed it's name to the UEFA Europa League.

The European Cup Winners Cup ran from 1961 until 1999 when it was written off completely to allow for the expansion of the Champions League. All teams that would have qualified for the Cup Winners Cup, now got a shot at Euopean Cup competition in the guise of the Champions League.

So in fact, the UEFA Cup, The Inter City Fairs Cup, The European Cup Winners Cup and the European Cup were in fact all seperate entities and competitions in their own right.

I disagree quite strongly too in your statement Aragorn, that the European Cup and the Champions League are totally different competitions.

That was some shite made up by United fans in a vain attempt to try and defuse the Scousers argument that they have been champions of Europe five times to our three. To be quite frank, it's f*cking embarassing that they would do this too. Simple fact is the European Cup changed it's format and at the same time they changed the name to sound a lot more commercially viable. It's the same competition and we trail Liverpool by 5-3, we have to catch them and not come up with this shite that it's a different competition.

It's like saying we are 11-0 in front in the Premier League. Though this might be a fact, it's a rather hollow and shallow way to get one over on the Scousers. It's 18-18, simple as.

I do agree with this statement and saying that we are 12-0 over Liverpool in the Premier League and 2-1 over them in the Champions League is disrespecting to the past and specially Matt Busby himself.

For some reason I still cannot update the OP. Maybe there is time limit on how for how long post can be edited. Considering that some forums have that you can edit post unlimited I think perhaps that would be the solution in mean time I was able to qoute op and edit what I qouted form the op.

But It would still be cool add the desgin of the FA cup at the time of 1909. Since its diffrent from the current desgin.
But UEFA cup/Europa League needs to be uploaded alltoghether.
